Description

Curious Curls is looking for a Marketing Coordinator to help manage all things involving our readers: social media, book sales, and advertisements. This is a very limited part-time position at $10/hr for about 5 hours a week, but it is a perfect opportunity to get involved for English undergraduate students looking to get experience in editing, publishing, and the literary community while still managing classes!


There is a possibility of increasing hours depending on needs and applicant's ability to pull in new Curious Curls fans.

About Curious Curls

Curious Curls Publishing is a small and relatively new literary press. Our goal is to help both already-grounded and newly emerging writers share their books with the world. We place focus on titles that evoke creativity and curiosity, whether in form or a character who expresses such qualities. We publish multiple titles a year, with a goal of expanding our knowledge and ability to market amazing books.

Responsibilities

  • Able to post/suggest content and ads for social media accounts (FB, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etc) as needed.

  • Is comfortable with suggesting/implementing audience groups, etc. for ads on Meta, YouTube, Amazon, etc.

  • Should be creative and strategic with the ability to brainstorm ways increase our income as a very small business.

  • Must be comfortable with being in front of a camera. This may be required as part of making TikTok content, staff skits, and other promotional material.

  • Approximately 5 hours of work will be assigned each week.

  • Should be comfortable with marketing skills, such as being able to decide on what similar pages, publishers, videos, and channels our readers might enjoy.

  • Must be able to work independently; we only meet up once a week. But candidate should be able to check-in and ask for help when needed.

  • Opinions and advice on promotional materials, newsletters, etc. may be needed and candidate is expected to have an active voice.

  • There will be weekly staff meetings that are approximately 0.5 hours each week. Must be able to attend, though there is flexibility for most of the year on the specific meeting time.

  • Must be able to create content that is able to be enjoyed by a large demographic. What appeals to younger audiences? Older? American Classic fans? Sci-fi fans? Writers? Readers? For a particular book? On a particular platform?

  • Other miscellaneous duties may be assigned as needed. Curious Curls is a small press and depends on staff who are able to try new things and fill in workload gaps.

  • This position can go as far as the candidate would like. If candidate would like to find other ways to help out or is interested in other roles (helping with editing, assisting with website management, interviewing authors, etc.), note this in the cover letter!

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with books and English as a subject.

  • Can work for at least 6 months. Exact time length would be decided by contract.

  • Able to attend weekly staff meetings.

  • In-progress undergraduate degree in English, Business, Marketing, etc. preferred, but not required. As a limited opportunity and a small press, we just want to make sure candidates pull the most from this opportunity.

  • Knowledge or experience in gathering followers on social media (or experience with marketing) preferred.

  • Preferred candidates are motivated, creative, and...curious!
